Learn beyond the classroom

Bring the curriculum to life with our residentials and day trips, offering students experiences beyond the classroom. Designed to motivate, challenge and bring out the best in every young person, these trips make learning unforgettable.

Confident, prepared, ready for anything

Our residentials and activities focus on developing confidence, resilience, and teamwork. The goal is to empower students by providing a supportive environment where they can stretch themselves just beyond their comfort zone. With expert guidance, they’re encouraged to take on new challenges, building personal growth and strengthening their sense of achievement. This controlled environment helps students push their limits while feeling supported every step of the way.

FAQs for secondary schools

Can’t find the answer you’re looking for? If you’re interested in learning more about how we can support your specific requirements, feel free to contact us. We’ll work with you to create the perfect experience for your students.

Can I come and take a look?

Yes of course, we’d be pleased to welcome you to Woodrow! If you’re a teacher, youth leader or booking lead, please send an email to hellowoodrow@londonyouth.org and we’ll arrange a convenient time for you to visit. If you’re a parent or young person, do take a look at our virtual tour.

Where can I find risk assessments, site maps and activity lists?

You can download all of these documents, and more, on our Useful Downloads page.

I want a self-led residential without outdoor activities, is Woodrow still right for me?

Absolutely. We have lots of groups stay with us who run their own programme entirely. They make good use of the indoor break-out spaces and sports hall facility. We can provide your group with projectors, screens and flip-chart stands too. If you have any specific requests, please do get in touch to discuss your requirements by emailing hellowoodrow@londonyouth.org or use the form on our Contact page and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

What age groups can join?

We welcome all secondary school students.

How do you ensure safety?

Keeping you safe is the most important thing we do. Woodrow holds the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC) accreditation, AAIAC Adventuremark, and we are an RLSS Accredited Training Centre, all of which are indicators of our high standards. Our instructors, swimming teachers, and lifeguards are all highly qualified and regularly undergo training and quality observation. This means you can be sure we provide the highest standard of care to all of our young visitors and are fully accredited by all the relevant regulatory bodies when it comes to delivering sessions.

What accommodation options are available?

What accommodation options are available? We accommodate all group sizes with 138 beds across 26 rooms, ranging from 2 to 10 people per room. Teachers get twin rooms with ready-made beds and tea/coffee facilities. Prefer camping? We offer tents and gear for hire. Shared bathrooms and en-suite rooms are available. Cozy up in one of three lounges for evening activities or quiet time. We can also divide the house into zones for privacy or offer exclusive use. The house is fully accessible, with lift access and accessible rooms.

What does a typical day look like on a residential?

We’ll work with the group leader to design a bespoke activity programme for the residential stay. A typical day starts with breakfast at 7:30am or 8:15am, followed by two morning activities, lunch at 12:30 or 1:15pm, two afternoon activities, dinner served at 5:30 or 6:15pm, and an evening activity which will finish at approximately 9pm – it’s a busy day!
