Day visit FAQs

How do you keep everyone safe?

Your safety is our priority. Our centre is regularly inspected and all our activities are operated in accordance with strict operating standards that define the minimum requirements for staff qualifications, supervision arrangements, equipment, facilities and appropriate clothing. All activities have a defined session plan and all instructors are regularly observed to make sure they’re complying with our safety standards and delivering a quality experience to our visitors. We’ve risk assessed all our activities and these are updated and reviewed constantly to reflect any changes. Woodrow High House has been awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge. We have a Duty Instructor on hand 24 hours a day to deal with any problems you might have while you’re staying with us. There’s always a Duty Manager on call and ready to help too.

Do I need to bring a packed lunch on my first day or for my day visit?

Yes. If staying residentially, we will provide meals commencing from your first evening until lunch on your departure day. Please ensure packed lunches are healthy and nut-free, and in a disposable bag.

This is my child’s first trip away and they are nervous, what should I do?

Many young people are slightly nervous about being away from home. We find that these nerves quickly disappear after they realise how much fun they will have with their friends. If this is preventing them from going on the trip, we offer nervous child tours of the centre so they can get a feel before they come.

Can my child bring their phone?

We strongly recommend that phones and electronics are left at home to prevent them from being lost or damaged. The final decision is made by the trip leaders if they will allow electronics.

Will the outdoor activities go ahead in the rain?

Yes, we run activities in all safe weather conditions. If the weather is unsafe, we will bring the activities indoors.

What do I do if my child takes medication?

You must ensure that the group leader is aware of any medication your child may take, and how they take it. We can provide fridges for groups if the medication requires one. All medication must be clearly labelled, named and put on the medical forms to return.

Is there any flexibility with the timing of the day?

We can offer some flexibility with the day’s timing based on staff availability. If a later start and finish works better for you, please reach out, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request.
